Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop
The KMenu could use some tidying for the next release of kubuntu. Some of these complaints are due to packaging, and therefore might be assigned directly to those packages. Nevertheless, I think the problem should be dealt with from a central perspective. Here are my observations: 1) System and Utilities have overlap. a) Some "system utilities" are under "utilities" (disk usage analyzer, krusader, kjobviewer, kmousetool). b) Some "utitilies" are under "system" (htop, aterm, konsole) 2) Settings and System have overlap. a) Some duplicates appear in both (boot up manager) b) Some of the "system" entries are really "settings" (beryl settings manager, boot up manager, software sources) 3) Confusingly, there are also special menus "System Menu" and "Settings" which provide KDE specific (non-application) choices 4) Also, there is a System Settings item on the menu, which gives access to the trimmed down view of KControl (which I rarely use, because it's usually not very useful) Hopefully you agree there is a problem in the organization. Here's a quick proposal, but do not take the proposal as being the meat of this bug (the above is): 1) System --> KDE Settings -----> [Built in KDE config that used to live in the special "Settings" menu] --> Hardware Tools -----> All applications related to printer, mouse, etc..., Kubuntu Device Database, Disk Usage Analyzer, ... --> Configuration -----> Boot Up Manager, Beryl Settings Manager, KUser, Adept, Synaptic, ... 2) Utilities --> All apps not related to one of the above submenus ** Affects: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- "system", "settings" and "utilities" menus need refinement & other kmenu observations https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for kubuntu-meta in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
