Hi, I also confirm same problem. Couple minutes ago I installed updates with Update manager, and after restart could not boot any more. I selected 3.0.0-12 in grub and booted as usually.
Using Lubuntu 11.10, fresh installation. I this can help, my root partition is Luks crypted, and system halted BEFORE asking for password (this also mean that logs could not be written to /var/log ) . I saw some alert about radeon, this could be lead to problem.
