Can you try booting with the boot messages enabled?  You can do this by
performing the following:

Edit the /etc/default/grub file.
Replace this line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""

Then run "sudo update-grub" and reboot.

During the boot, can you watch for any messages about the encryption
password?  And post any such messages.  Also, please boot the latest
11.10 kernel for this test.
