System: Xubuntu, fully updated

The procedure to remove the side pane in Thunar (the side panel holding
either Places or the File Tree structure) is not documented, nor is it
facilitated through any of the Thunar menus.

In Nautilus, F12 does the job, and this appears to work in Thunar. But,
as it the use of F12 is undocumented, I remain uncertain what side
effects (apart from removing the side panel) the use of F12 has. It is
also not clear if F12 would universally work, that is, with Xubuntu on
other hardware.

** Affects: thunar (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
