This non-intuitive behaviour had me confused too. After Alt-Tabbing to "Show Desktop", why do the other apps' icons disappear from the Switcher when I select an app? They reappear when I Alt+Tab tob to "Show Desktop" twice more?! They don't appear to be normally minimized since I have the "Show minimized windows in Switcher" ticked.
I'd prefer to be able to turn of "Show Desktop" from Switcher and to turn it on in the Unity panel, since I keep unintentionally Alt-Tabbing to it.
