One striking difference between the two modem-manager.logs is that in
11.10 there is communication with ttyUSB1 in parallel, whereas in 11.04
it is "type ignored" after the probing.

The commands that are going to ttyUSB0 seem not to be different in both
logs, but the response from there stops at the moment the command
"AT+CGREG=2" is  sent to ttyUSB1 (log from 11.10). This is supposed to
switch on unsolicited status output on that port, to monitor the signal
and other parameters during a connection.

This seems to be a fundamental difference in the modem handling between
11.04 and 11.10. I'm not familiar with the NM/MM code though, so I can't
give further assistance here.
