This is definitely still an issue in Precise Alpha 1.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Simple Scan. Check that it is set to scan in Photo mode.
2. Start a scan, then shortly after it begins filling in the image hit the
cancel button.
3. Switch the scanning mode to Text.
4. Press the Scan button again, and again cancel the scan partway through.
5. Press the button for setting up a new document. Select "Discard all changes"
in the dialog that pops up.
6. Press the Scan button again. Simple Scan will now crash and close.

Note: the first time I tried this procedure, it crashed with this error.
The second time it crashed as in bug 900289, but the procedure and
result are the same.

Package versions:

simple-scan 3.2.1-0ubuntu2
hplip 3.11.10-1ubuntu1
hplip-gui 3.11.10-1ubuntu1
