If the workaround at the top of this bug and my PPA do not solve the problem, then it's likely you have a very different bug. And therefore I would have no idea if nouveau would improve things for you. But it's worth a try.
Please also confirm the version you're testing from ppa:vanvugt/compiz. It should be "vv5" now, if you do a system update.
