You're reporting two issues here: one having to do with the backlight and the other with the touchpad not working. These should really be filed as separate issues. I'll set this bug to xorg, so it will be about the brightness problem. Then I'd appreciate if you could do the following, to attach relevant debugging information to this report, and create a new one about the touchpad problem.
