Well, if there was a "dns-search" option in a stanza that was activated then the corresponding "search" option should have appeared in resolv.conf. If that didn't happen then we need to figure out why it did not.
Please let me know if, after fixing /etc/network/interfaces, resolv.conf still isn't correctly generated on that one machine. No, resolvconf has no debugging or logging features.
