Public bug reported: Since installing Oneiric on this system I've found it is impossible to shutdown cleanly. There are two, possibly unrelated, symptoms:
1.) Selecting shutdown from the session management menu only logs me out to lightdm. Selecting shutdown from the session management menu in lightdm does nothing. 2.) Running 'shutdown now' from a terminal actually does seem to shut the system down at first, but after a while it starts flashing alternate colour screens (red, blue, green, white, grey etc, etc) The only way to turn the system off is to do a hard shutdown via the power button.
