Public bug reported:

No network connection when trying to install a .deb pacakge. Also,
authentication of the software center is failing even though I checked
the password.

I ran 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade' without issue as
well. I'm fairly sure the problem resides with the software center.
