The ~/.config/dconf/ folder didn't exist. after I installed dconf-
editor(and ran it) and set the rights of ~/.config/dconf/user from 644
to 664. this fixed it for me.

I wasn't able to start the indicator from the command line, because I
didn't know how to shut down/kill the indicator.
