I don't know why I have not discovered this earlier, even with intense googling. Turns out that 'mouseemu' is a decent workaround.
1) Install package 'mouseemu' 2) Run the command on terminal: mouseemu -typing-block 500 The 500 sets the delay to 500ms - adjust at will. Make the command run on system boot to make the change permanent.
