Well, after a couple of tests I found that the problem, at least in mi case, has to do with Beryl and not with GDM. If I repeat the steps posted above (see my previous post) using Beryl as the window manager, what happens is that the screen asking for the password to unlock the active session of user A goes blank. But even though the screen is blank I can type my password, press enter and return to the opened session. If I do the steps using Metacity, I have no problems at all.
