Here's to confirm that this bug also exists on Ubuntu 11.10 running on a HP Optiplex 990 Desktop (i7-2600 chip). Everything is set up as specified in various online how-tos, so the first magic packet wakes the machine up. After that, nothing happens unless I restart the computer.
I've tried Michael's fix above, which stops and restarts the NIC. I have no problem restarting it, but the machine does not wake from sleep afterwards. The failure of WOL after the first time is a problem because this is supposed to be a work machine I can access from home for bigger computation tasks. I'd rather not leave it on 24/7.
