Many users, especially those who are new to Linux, will not simply install a 
different desktop environment. They will switch distributions instead. This is 
already happening:

Experienced users with the knowledge to dump and replace Unity are treated as 
second class citizens since Ubuntu's main focus regarding updates and 
components, such as an Ubuntu One client, lies on Unity.
