Yeah I checked that file, that line was already in it by default. It is just odd because it seems like everything was done right yet the mic still doesn't seem to be working. You will see the meter on go up and down for maybe about 10 seconds before completely freezing and dropping out. I think it may have something to do with the hot plugging but I'm not certain. I had an awfully hard time following those directions on the site with the kinect link you gave and this is why I created the default.conf in the first place. It just seemed easier yet unfortunately didn't work out as I planned.
