Public bug reported: Program's windows are placed at the correct viewports as they are launched in a running Ubuntu (UNity) session. However, if "compiz --replace &" (or unity --replace &) is ran in a terminal, all opened programs' windows are moved to viewport 1,1 (x,y), in disregard of the rules set at the "Place WIndows"plugin interface at CCSM.
The same obviously happens when a compiz session crashes and is restarted. Moreoever, the windows are placed at coordinates 0,0 of view port 1,1: Their titlebars are generally under (covered) by the global panel, so that in order to move them with the mouse, it is necessary to click anywhere over them while holding the left alt keyboard key. In those coordinated, they are also partially covered by the Unity Launcher bar if the use adjust Unity settings so that the Launcher Bar is "Always Visible" (which is common for users with large monitors). This bug was present in the Oneiric development cycle and still is active now in PP cycle. I am at your service if you need someone to perform further testing.
