Bizarre, we have also been hitting this dis-functioning Num-lock
problem multiple times.  Each time, it takes us ages to find out it is
due to this Mouse-Keys feature in the "Universal Access" category.  We
are pretty sure we have never enabled it by ourselves, so it is either
enabled by default, or by some system updates, or by some obscure
shortcut keys.  However I've just reviewed all the shortcuts and could
not find anything related to enabling Mouse-keys.

Sebastien, if you are sure this feature is not enabled by default, then
I propose to add the same Mouse-Keys feature check-box in System-
Settings/Keyboard so it is faster to find it.
