Justification: We would really like Leptonica 1.69 as part of Precise for two reasons. First, it is a critical support library for the next release of the OCR engine Tesseract, which has according to popcon has lots of users. That next Tesseract release will not only improve quality, go from about 6 to 60 out-of-the box supported languages, which is in line with Ubuntu's internationalization goals.
http://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=tesseract The other big deal is Leptonica 1.69 adds significant support for PDF output, providing a much more solid foundation for things like converting a directory of JPEG files to a PDF. That niche is surprisingly lacking in Linux distributions. Finally, the Leptonica author (Dan Bloomberg) the Debian packager (myself) and Google Inc (the sponsor of Leptonica) are all asking pretty please. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/929040 Title: FFe: Sync leptonlib 1.69-2 (universe) from Debian testing (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/leptonlib/+bug/929040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
