Public bug reported:

Using a MiniDP to DVI (active) adapter my native resolution was obtainable
(1980*1080) up untill the update this morning.
The updates of this morning included:
linux-image-3.0.0-16-generic (install)
linux-headers-3.0.0-16 (install)
linux-generic (3.0.0.15.17, 3.0.0.16.19) (update)
indicator-multiload (update)
linux-headers-generic (3.0.0.15.17, 3.0.0.16.19) (update)
linux-image-generic (3.0.0.15.17, 3.0.0.16.19) (update)
linux-doc (3.0.0.15.17, 3.0.0.16.19) (update)
linux-libc-dev (3.0.0.15.17, 3.0.0.16.19) (update)

Now the maximum resolution available for this connector is 1440*900.
Which used to be the case about 1,5 month ago as well.
