I confirm the bug on Kubuntu 11.04 on amd64.

Executing xpdf from the command line opens its window, and all its
controls (the ones which are active without opening a file) are
responsive. However, if I open xpdf with a pdf file name from the
command line, the window appears for a fraction of a second, then xpdf
crashes with a segmentation fault. If I first open xpdf without a file
and then open a file with Open..., xpdf crashes with segmentation fault.

Note that

xpdf-reader_3.02-9ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb
xpdf-common_3.02-9ubuntu1.1_all.deb

work fine. Currently I am using these package versions.
