This problem seemed to be fixed using a fresh Kubuntu 7.04 final installation. However, I am now experiencing the original reporter's symptoms on each and every login when KNetworkManager attempts to connect to a secured network (WPA or WPA2). KWallet opens and KNetworkManager disappears leaving a blank space in the system tray. If I logout/login, KNetworkManager appears and I can select my wireless network and connect without a problem.
