Public bug reported:

Following on from bug #787590, it appears that with the release of the
3.0.0-16 kernel a regression has occurred and the problem is present
again. I thought the patch had been adopted into the mainstream kernel
but for some reason it does not appear to have made it into the Ubuntu
release.
