Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nut-usb

I have Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn installed with nut 2.0.5 and nut-usb
2.0.5. The Belkin UPS is available:

But upsc reported that there were not devices. After much rooting
around -- the NUT documentation really does seem to be disastrous -- I
found Debian Bug #409082 so I checked the /dev/bus/usb permissions:

|> ll /dev/bus/usb/003
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 2007-05-29 11:54 ./
drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 180 2007-05-28 12:17 ../
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 256 2007-05-28 12:16 001
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 258 2007-05-29 12:05 003

I manually changed the group to nut and restarted upsd and then
everything seems to work, at least upsc delivered a report!

So it seems that the standard distribution does not set the right group
permission. This may not be an error in Ubuntu per se, but I cannot
find anywhere that tells me what I have to do to ensure that the Belkin
I have is recognized by the system in order to have the right
permissions set.

This may be just that the Nut documentation isn't good enough, but I
thought I would report this as it is definitely not the case that Ubuntu
"just works".

Thanks.
