this is a long standing issue (I've had this bug hit my ipod on and off since hoary). it's something that no one seems to want to/be able to fix.
the best workaround for now is to use usb 1.1 instead of usb 2.0 to access the ipod (to do that: sudo modprobe -r ehci-hcd). also, if you're lucky: with some kernels, the issue does not arise. 2.6.20-13 was such a kernel (at least for me it worked ok) ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed ** Also affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- USB hard drive (iPod) I/O errors on read.
