Public bug reported:

The packaging process of the EC2 AMIs for 12.04 seems to be containing
errors, as /etc is group-writeable, and two files (hostname, hosts) have
bad ownership and insecure permissions.

This does not occur on a regular -server installation, but can be
observed on (at least) AMI ami-7b152c0f (eu-west-1).

# ls -la /etc
total 788
drwxrwxr-x 86 root root 4096 Mar 2 17:44 .
[...]
-rw-r--r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 18 Mar 2 17:44 hostname
-rw-rw-r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 221 Jan 9 08:47 hosts
