I changed some BIOS settings, hoping to make the system more stable. I used the recommended most stable options. After changing the BIOS I no longer get a garbled screen when using the 3D driver (at least that I can remember?). Instead the screen only goes out of sync or just black. I also moved the card to another PCI slot (PCI:0:9:0), but with the same results, no improvements.
I added: Option "DRI" "off", but it had no effect (that I could tell). The screen still goes our of sync or blank. The system is stable if I use the "vesa" driver. It only messes up when I use the "ati" driver (and I think only just when AIGLX is enabled, but I'll have to do more testing.....). Is there any way to somehow test the graphic card to see if it's defective -- bad hardware? I think it might be the card, but don't know any way to know for sure. I also have windows on the computer, and it works with the 3D driver from ATI. So, I'm not sure if it's just the Linux drivers? -- [rv280 PCI] random lockups, blank/garbled screen, resolution changes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/93925 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
