The background color is set to be similar to the default background in
Ubuntu.  This is because there is a race between the X window being
shown, and the greeter process drawing to it.  The default gray caused a
visual flash to be seen if the greeter was too slow in drawing the first
frame, it's just less noticeable with it set to purple.
