A clue: lsusb in stock ubuntu 12.04 now seems to indicate it has no firmware for the adapter:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0cf3:3000 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR3011 Bluetooth (no firmware) (I don't remember if my first lsusb output was from 12.04 or 10.04 where it was working.) Could this just be that a required package isn't being installed by default? If so, which one, and why does xubuntu install it by default? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945932 Title: Atheros USB bluetooth adapter not detected in 12.04 beta 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/945932/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
