This used to work in Ubuntu 10.10 to fix the webcam from showing up upside down in Skype: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11270322&postcount=6 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libv4l/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype The webcam has USB ID 0c45:6288, on an Asus A53E laptop. The webcam works just fine in any other application in Ubuntu. The Skype version is the same used in Ubuntu 10.10, Skype 2.0.25 beta.
