I get a similar set of "unable to open font 'nnnn'" messages and chromium-browser displays the error "Aw, Snap! Something went wrong while displaying this webpage. To continue, reload or go to another page." I am able to work around the problem by invoking as "chromium- browser --single-process", but this is not ideal. Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, chromium-browser 17.0.963.78~r125577-0ubuntu1
