I found a workaround for this problem: 1. sudo apt-get install gconf-editor (or search in Software Center) 2. fire it up and change /apps/comorama/preferences/save_dir from "~/Webcam_Pictures" to "Webcam_Pictures"
So this is just a simple typo in the camorama.schemas.in from the source package.
