This problem occurs regularly at our site, too. All 400+ workstations are on Lucid and we don't plan to upgrade until the next LTS release is out.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but my expectation from an LTS release is that these sort of bugs are getting fixed. If not I don't see the point in using an LTS release at all. Please have look into this as many people are suffering from this problem.
