It looks like you are using the hplip backend with the recommended ljet4 driver.
Please reinstall your printer with the parallel backend.
Therefore in gnome-cups-manager (System -> Administration -> Printing) you have 
to select  "Use another printer by specifying a port", an choose "LPT #1". Do 
NOT select the entry that contains your printer name and HPLIP here!
