Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) on this hardware: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HP_Pavilion_DV8220EA Ubuntu tries to open .run self-extracting installers with gEdit. It should be giving the user some information on what type of file this is and what they might need to do for it to be handled correctly (make it executable). I have also filed a request for documentation of .run packages.
