This error is reproducible in the following way: Log into Xubuntu Open an encrypted home under user A Log out Log into user B Error will occur under Thunar when trying to open the HOME directory in user B ONLY. The sub-directories are accessible under Thunar and the home directory is accessible under a terminal or Gnome file browser.
