Done some tests and as far as I can tell, this update solves at least
something. Seems that improvements started showing after my previous post. Now
panels and desktop icons don't disappear when switching desktops.
There are a couple of issues, anyway: When I don't use cube rotation, windows
disappear from desktop switcher applet, so it is only by guess that i can
switch to the right desktop in case of many application opened, because the
applet shows correctly the windows only on active desktop.

The second issue is: when using the plain old desktop switcher (no cube)
one can move windows between the desktop using the right-click menu, and
this is the correct behaviour. When using cube, these menu options are
missing and it is not so obvious how to move a window to another
desktop. This is anyway stated in another bug (i don't remember exactly
which one).
