You can easily reproduce the issue with a simple "copy A B" script loop on the SD card, where file A is about 1 GB. The Pandaboard ES will freeze after a few minutes ... up to one hour. Without this specific write job, the freeze will occur after several hours, just due to regular write accesses of the running system. It is a complete freeze, no syslog entry, no serial access, no network, no keyboard/mouse anymore. When pressing the reset button, it will not even reboot. The SD card interface seems to be hanging. Power-cycle works. I tested 5 different cards with all the same result. Notably, the same cards work well in three other SD card readers, and also in Pandaboard ES when running the Oneiric-preinstalled image (plus ubuntu- omap4-extras) instead of Precise-daily. I found the big difference from Oneiric to Precise is the SD-card interface speed (checked with hdparm): Oneiric: 8.7 MB/s - Precise: ~16 MB/s + Precise: ~16 MB/s So, maybe the faster mode in Precise uncovers a HW issue on the Pandaboard ES SD/MMC interface?
