I can confirm the same behavior as reported by Jan Schmidt: no firmware loading problem and two different devices wmaster0 and wlan0. No one is working. The latest kernel upgrade 2.6.20-16-generic didn't change anything.
My card is ISL3890 PCMCIA that works well on the same notebook and Edgy installation.
