I see the path to execute unity-greeter is to usr. So I should add that since 
the updates of March 30, I have been having permissions issues in that folder. 
E.g. I could suddenly not execute a 3G script anymore (Sakis, relies on 
usb-modeswitch etc.) that worked fine every day before.
I checked, and as Admin I have no more rights to anything in the entire /usr 
folder.
I searched for a similar error and found support forum entries that show this 
has in fact happened before during upgrades.
Should I report this as a separate bug? I have no clue what happened or if it 
even has anything to do with Precise...
Sorry I can't be more helpful. I'm comfortable with applying commands etc. but 
I'm no source code geek :(
