Public bug reported:

Hi,

The computer is booting ok, but the shutdown/restart process doesn't
work on my machine, when I want to shutdown the computer the process
prints 2 errors/warnings:

shutdown: timeout opening/writing control channel /dev/initctl
init: timeout opening/writing control channel /dev/initctl

The process stalls there, I have to manually power-off the computer.

Additional Info:
Kernel: 2.6.17-6-386
Grub params: ro acpi=off init=/sbin/upstart quiet

Thanks!
