Running Precise now, I have seen this bug 3 times in the last week following a shutdown failure, so as requested I have opened a new bug #978333
In one of the forums http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1930928 someone reported being told that "this problem is not with xubuntu really, but with xubuntu-desktop installed over a normal ubuntu install (oneiric)." This is the case for my desktop, in fact I installed straight xfce and not xubuntu-desktop. Does anyone know what this mysterious problem with a normal install is?
