This actually isn't a wishlist item if you ask me. If you read up on
KSynaptics it states that the entire touchpad surface should be
disabled. Also don't confirm your own bugs, however I will confirm
because I receive this same issue. Now I am not 100% sure this is a
KSynaptic issue, or a Xorg issue. If I set the following option in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf then I can get the full feature to work. Truthfully
KSynaptic should be smart enough to set this option if possible.

        Option          "SHMConfig"             "on"
