You will find attached the requested .xsession-errors file.  There is
not much info in it.

This was a new installation on April 14 using the current daily build
liveCD.

Before logging in to Classic, I had already logged in several times to
Unity.

Is there some Update Manager update/upgrade process you would like me to
try, even though this process does not always catch recent changes?
