I'm wondering what it is that can cause this infinite recursion to happen.
Are you using some special pulseaudio configuration here?
Is it happening every time or just occasionally/randomly?
Will running the command below cause the error to occur?
canberra-gtk-play --file /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-
login.ogg
