Hi, sorry for the delay. CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz/2400.000 MHz/2048 KB and 2GB memory.
I went into the LO options and found the memory tab and increased them all significantly from default. This did seem to solve the problem, but compared with my netbook which was running 10.10 with the same memory defaults as 12.04 it seems strange that it was struggling.
