My email (work) has multiple aliases so I very rarely get emails directly to my login address. Maybe including the send-aliases too as "directly sent" messages would help... Anyway I've searched around for the about:config pref you mentioned (to set the icon to blue for all messages) but I can't find it / work out what it is.
