I can confirm that the bug still exists. None of the above workarounds help. Examining kworker tracing via https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/3/31/68 , kworker seems to be borked with recurring tasks: top-2989 [001] 1874.998253: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 top-2989 [001] 1874.998317: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 top-2989 [001] 1874.998347: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 top-2989 [001] 1874.998377: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 top-2989 [001] 1874.998412: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 top-2989 [001] 1874.998433: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 top-2989 [001] 1874.998454: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 top-2989 [001] 1874.998472: workqueue_queue_work: work struct=ffff880062bee110 function=flush_to_ldisc workqueue=ffff88007f00af00 req_cpu=1 cpu=1 I don't know if this is related, but dmesg is showing lots of ACPI errors (the following repeats, every 25-35 seconds or so): [ 1151.175887] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPC_.SMBR] (Node ffff88007bf30f28), AE_AML_INFINITE_LOOP (20110413/psparse-536) [ 1151.175921] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPC_.INIT] (Node ffff88007bf30f00), AE_AML_INFINITE_LOOP (20110413/psparse-536) [ 1151.175943] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_GPE._L00] (Node ffff88007bf2b2d0), AE_AML_INFINITE_LOOP (20110413/psparse-536) [ 1151.175969] ACPI Exception: AE_AML_INFINITE_LOOP, while evaluating GPE method [_L00] (20110413/evgpe-560) Unfortunately, my motherboard (ancient Intel Atom D945GCLF) doesn't support disabling of ACPI, but adding acpi=off to the boot seems to make the problem go away. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887793 Title: Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/887793/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
